There's also how well the horse handles inclines, whether it prefers to run mid-pack early in the race or to take the lead right away, its age, how well it performs on different track surfaces, and its general temperament. And let's not forget the time before and between races - even horses need good managers.Gallop Racing 2001 gives players the opportunity to deal with all the ins and outs of horse racing, making it as much of sim as it is a racing game. In Season mode, you play dual roles. As a stable owner, you will choose which horses run which races, decide when to retire horses, make breeding selections, and even name the foals. As jockey, you direct your horse during the races, but its performance will ultimately depend on its temperament and how well you've handled your other duties. There is also a two-player splitscreen Versus mode.
